Our journey into the beef business started in 2003 when my husband came home from college and moved into a family farmstead. He started out raising holstein steer calves, taken from his family's dairy herd. He started out feeding the small herd of calves by carrying buckets of feed to them. He soon realized that if he wanted to do this on a bigger scale he would have to invest in a mixer wagon and tractor. Over the next year, he bought a mixer wagon and used his grandpas old 1952 John Deere 60 tractor. After a few years he began to expand the amount of cattle he was feeding. Not only did he expand how many cattle he was feeding he also switched from feeding holstein steers to feeding mostly black angus. After expanding he reaized that he needed to put up new sheds, pour concrete, and make other improvements to ensure that the cattle were kept comfortable and clean. While he was expanding the cattle portion, I had a "town" job working in accounting. I soon decided to be home with my kids and help my husband. In 2019 we started selling beef shares just by word of mouth when people would contact us. Then covid hit and locker appointments were almost impossible to find. Since then we have still been selling beef shares but realized not everyone that wants farm fresh beef has the room or budget for a full share , this is about the time we wanted to bring the beef boxes back. We take pride in our cattle and want to bring our consumers the highest quality beef.
